What is Software ????
Software does not get the credit it really deserves. When you purchase a new computer the focus is always on the " hardware " GHZ, MB, Video Cards etc. Without good well written
software all your fancy hardware would be completely useless.
Operating systems ( OS ) "What really is making my computer work?"
Definition :: An operating system (abbreviated OS) is the program that,
after being initially loaded into the computer, manages all the other programs on the computer.
An OS performs basic tasks such as recognizing input from the keyboard, sending output to the display screen, keeping track of files and directories on the disk, and controlling peripheral devices such as disk drives and printers. Examples of operating systems are Windows XP, Linux, and Macintosh OS X.
The most important piece of software is the operating system. It's the computers number one program - the CEO, the head honcho the boss of most computer activities.
The operating system controls the computer hardware, ensuring that everything is getting along and working together. The operating system is
essentially the team leader and without it the team members would be lost.
The operating system also controls the software. Each of the installed software applications IE : Solitaire must adhere to the operating systems rules before executing
the program.
Finally, it's the operating systems job to communicate with you the user. Oh what a mundane job this is for the all mighty OS.

chances of actually damaging your computer hardware unless you physically kick or throw your poor helpless computer out the window is very unlikely. Don't be afraid of your computer click play and explore until you eventually have to reformat.

Don't immediately assume that you have damaged your computer, chances are that you have only damaged the computer software. Ensure you always back-up your data before attempting anything that you are unsure of.
Think of it like extra security like putting on a helmet before riding a bike.
